In an continuing effort by the Canadian government to strengthen ties with China, Vancouver mayor Gregory Robertson and 22 small business leaders from the area will travel to the People's Republic to promote a variety of business enterprises.
The Globe and Mail reports that for the first time since June, when Canada's spy agency suggested that the Chinese government had been influencing Canadian lawmakers, a politician will travel to the country. Robertson expressed excitement at the business opportunities available in the country.
"This business mission to China will deliver real results for Vancouver – we've spent months preparing and we are confident we can secure a number of business deals that will directly benefit our region," Mayor Robertson said in a news release obtained by the news site.
He went on to say that the group would also try to take advantage of the growing green economy that has emerged in China over the past few years.
Chinese-Canadian relations have been in the news recently, since the government of Canada signed a Approved Destination Status Agreement with China. For the first time ever, Canada welcomed tourists from China to the country.
