With the rise in internet usage throughout Canada, more small businesses than ever before have begun to allow employees to work off-site, at home.
According to CBC News, the movement toward having employees work from remote locations is gaining popularity. A study, released by Statistics Canada showed that between 2000 and 2008 the number of work-at-home employees increased from 1.4 to 1.8 million. It also showed that 29 percent of men and 19 percent of women worked at home.
"Our experience is they don't abuse it, they appreciate it and they work very hard." Said David Wills, a vice president at Toronto-based Media Profile, in an interview with the news source. "Happy workers are better workers, and one of the things people like here is that they feel respected and they're very productive."
No matter what the business, the use of online systems can allow people to work from anywhere. No matter if at home or on the road, web applications make it easier to keep communication channels open.
