A survey by the Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses revealed that small business owners in Hamilton don't think highly of the government when it comes to helping them.
The CFIB survey showed that out of the 520 small businesses surveyed, 75 percent ranked the city's performance as poor when it came to handling the business community. CFIB policy analyst Plamen Petkov said that the results showed the business community's distrust of the government.
"These are the areas that our members feel need to be addressed," Petkov said. "It's clear from these results that local government performance does not meet the expectations of small business owners."
Only a small handful, 2 percent of respondents, said that the government was doing a good job when it came to awareness of small business and property taxes.
"The feeling is that local governments are not aware of what it takes to run a small business," Petkov said.
Hamilton is not the only area of Canada where small business owners show a lack of confidence in local lawmakers. The CFIB recently surveyed entrepreneurs in Sault Ste. Marie, where 64 percent of respondents said the the government was doing a poor job looking after small business owners needs.
