One in three Canadians eager to start there own business

According to a recent survey, approximately one out of every three Canadians has the desire to start their own small business in the next two years.

The poll, conducted by Intuit, also revealed that nearly one- quarter of people planning to start a business - 22 percent - were not discouraged by the recent downturn in the economy and were even more motivated than in previous years. Almost two-thirds of potential entrepreneurs were confident in their own ability to come up with an effective business idea, and 55 percent said that they thought they could successfully promote the idea.

"Much of Canada's economic might comes from its small business backbone and, despite a market characterized by uncertainty, it's encouraging to see such gritty, entrepreneurial determination among the Canadian population," said Gene Lewis, country manager for Intuit Canada.

Business owners in Alberta have even more reason to be hopeful. According to a recent economic outlook from the Royal Bank of Canada, the future for businesses in Alberta is bright. Retail sales in the province are projected to see the fastest growth in the country.

"Small business has, for about the last year, maintained a positive attitude." said Ken Kolby, president of the Alberta Chamber of Commerece in an interview with iNews880. Kolby went on to say that Albertans would see major job growth in the months to come.
