According to one small business expert, Canadian entrepreneurs must look beyond traditional marketing channels in order to gain more customers.

In a column for the Globe and Mail, business communications expert Mia Pearson says that businesses of every size needed to fully integrate social media if they wanted to gain an edge on their competition. She writes that by linking marketing efforts with different social media channels is a great way for customers to find out about different promotions happening currently.

"They should be integrated into every facet of your business – internal and external communications, marketing, and customer service," Mia Pearson wrote for the news source. "Your customers will see you’re not just in this for marketing gain, but instead you’re interested in a continuing dialogue and developing better customer relationships that are not only driven by sales goals."

More users than ever are logging on to social networks. The relatively inexpensive marketing tool allows small business owners to promote their brand globally on sites such as Facebook, Twitter and foursquare.
