Terrace businesses paying higher taxes than others

According to a member of a Canadian small business alliance, the taxes in one Canadian city are simply too high.

In Terrace, British Columbia, Brian Bonney, of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, is calling attention to the fact that small business owners tax rates are some of the highest in the province.

The Terrace Standard reports that, according to CFIB, Terrace has the 17th-highest tax rate in British Columbia.

"Your council charges businesses 3.85 times more than it does a residence ... that’s nearly four times," Bonney said in an interview with the news source. He went on to say that there was a "disconnect on the part of municipal politicians and what they’re doing to small businesses in B.C."

The CFIB has been in the news frequently in recent weeks, pointing out other ways they believe business owners have been unfairly taxed by local governments. The Ottawa Business Journal reports that the CFIB recently released a report stating that property owners in Ottawa pay 2.01 times more taxes than residents.
