Small businesses in British Columbia are the most confident in the country according to a recent small business index.
The Canadian Federation of Independent Business business barometer index showed that, among all small-and-medium-sized businesses, B.C. had the most positive outlook in the country. The province's score for May-June was 72.1, nearly six points higher than the national average of 66.4.
"I definitely believe that's the case," said Darryl Ray, owner of Vancouver-based The Butler Did It Catering, in an interview with the Vancouver Sun. "Our numbers are starting to rebound. We're now back up by 20 per cent or greater from last year's numbers... it's nice to see us back to form."
The survey also revealed that 14 percent of small businesses in B.C. planned to hire full-time employees and 21 percent planned to hire part-time workers in the coming months.
Despite the positive news from B.C.'s small business community, the overall confidence of small businesses nationwide was down in the latest CFIB index. The index found that the national average fell from 67.3 to 66.4 in May-June.
