Results might guide small business social media campaigns

More small businesses are using social media to boost sales than ever before. Still, there are very few resources available to help business owners assess the efficacy of social media in bringing companies new business.

Small business owners might benefit from an eMarketer report that provides the results of a Razorfish survey about how social network users engage corporations on Facebook and Twitter.

The survey reveals that most people who follow companies on social media do so with the hopes of benefitting from exclusive offers.

The Razorfish survey also showed that interesting profile content and tweet updates are important to keeping users engaged with social media campaigns. More than 22 percent of respondents said intriguing content would make them consider doing business with a company.

Canadian business owners might be well-advised to take this insight and plan their social media campaigns accordingly. Newswire provider CNW Group's Social Media Reality Check reports that one quarter of Canadian social media users feel better about doing business with organizations they engage through social media.
