A recent survey reveals that more than a quarter of Canadian businesses have successfully used social media to attract business.
The survey, commissioned by Regus, found that 34 percent of all Canadian businesses had been able to use some form of social media to get new clients. The survey also found that social media, as part of a broader marketing strategy, is being given a higher level of importance by businesses around Canada.
Twenty-eight percent of business in Canada have specifically made budgetary arrangements devoted solely to increase the company's exposure on social networks. The survey also revealed that 53 percent of businesses said that they used social networking to stay in touch with clients.
"Our global survey has revealed that social networking has finally become a mainstream business tool. Although there is a core group of sceptics globally... a significant proportion of firms are devoting real marketing budgets through the medium to acquire new customers and keep existing ones," said Wes Lenci, Regus' regional vice president.
Business owners aren't the only ones using social media to their advantage. CTV reports that the international police organization, Interpol, is using social media to track down 26 high-risk fugitives, including David MacDonald Carrol, a Quebec Hells Angel who has been linked to 13 deaths.
