Print, radio, and online are all viable spaces for small businesses

Buying ad space for the first time is an intimidating task for many small businesses. A recent article for Inc. magazine demystifies the ad buying process and offers some cost-efficient advice for inexperienced businesses.

Print ads are where many small businesses start out. Buying remnant ad space can be an extremely cost-effective way to advertise a business, says Inc. Remnant ad space is left-over ad room, and is usually available for low prices.

While buying remnant ads is equally effective for marketing on the radio, a business may also be able to trade goods for airtime. For example, Inc. mentions that a business could supply excess inventory for radio giveaways in return for some airtime.

For businesses with ecommerce websites, they may want to consider purchasing some online ad inventory. The benefit of online ads is that they can be tracked, allowing business owners to fine-tune their campaigns.

Small businesses may also want to check out social media marketing. According to a recent report from the Social Media Examiner, 85 percent of small business owners found that social media marketing helped generate buzz about their organization.
