Small business owners all over Canada are always looking for ways to improve their visibility and legitimacy in the business community. But with many businesses vying for the same consumers, many entrepreneurs are looking for better ways to differentiate themselves from others in their field.

In an interview with the Globe and Mail, small business expert Gary Collins advises small businesses, no matter what the size, to set up advisory boards in order to give an added level of credibility to the goals trying to be accomplished. The boards are usually made up of colleagues and friends who meet every few months in order to give advice and help strategize the best ways to go forward.

The first step to creating this board, according to Collins, is to make out a list of the people most desirable as potential] members.

"To begin, create a list of 20 influential people you know. Ask these people to provide an introduction to key people whom you think should be on your advisory board," Collins said in an interview with the news provider. "Once you have connected with potential board members, invite them to discuss opportunities over lunch or dinner."

By setting up different types of committees and boards, small businesses can help themselves get attention. No matter how insignificant it may seem, networking properly is often the key to growth.
