The most popular search engine in the world is hoping to expand its reach in Canada, according to a recent statement by its Canadian leader.

CTV reports that the new head of Google Canada, Chris O'Neil, is eyeing a major expansion in the country. O'Neil said that there was a lot of opportunity for the search engine giant, and that the company and is hoping to repeat the success that it has had with its North American neighbor to the south, where it has used AdWords to help small businesses.

“I'd ... like to see Google's business brand be even stronger such that we're more part of the business community in a meaningful way, more so than we are now," said O'Neil in a phone interview with the news service. He also plans on hiring "all-star players" to fill the company's vacancies.

Government officials in Canada recently called attention to Google after the company made an historic deal with telecom giant Verizon. According to the North Cumberland View, New Democrats have asked the Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission to investigate whether or not the mega-deal violates the rights of Canadian residents and small businesses to have equal access to websites.
