Survey finds that many business professionals are overlooking this one easy business resource

One of the most important business tools for improving productivity and employee morale is also one of the easiest - yet is often neglected, according to a recent study.

A survey from MARC Research and Office Depot found that disorganized work spaces lead to lost time - cited by 47 percent of respondents - meeting tardiness (16 percent) and missed deadlines (14 percent).

However, 32 percent of business professionals said they have a disorganized workspace, and 45 percent even admitted to cleaning up their desk clutter only once a month or less.

"Every business professional knows being organized pays dividends, from increased productivity to the satisfaction of being able to actually see past the piles on your desk," said Laura Leist, president of NAPO. "The biggest challenge is knowing where and how to start as well as finding the motivation to do so."

As clutter-free work spaces can be an easy way to increase business productivity, Canadian small business owners may want to implement one day per week when employees are given a block of time to clean off their desks, and should ensure that all common areas remain clean and clutter-free.
