One of the leading universities in British Columbia is doing what it can to help small businesses succeed by introducing a brand-new online tool.

The University of British Columbia announced that it had had created the Small Business Accelerator, with funding from the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, the Vancouver Observer reports. The new forum will give information from knowledgeable UBC and SBA staff, all available on the internet.

"I'm really impressed with the SBA so far," says Larry Jones, a business analyst from Community Futures Terrace. "What it means to rural would-be entrepreneurs is that they'll have access to information that everybody takes for granted in large metropolitan areas. This is going to level the playing field quite a bit."

Entrepreneurs will be able to have their own questions answered on the site's forums and also get involved by creating their own blog posts on the site.

UBC got some unwanted headlines recently when a fire broke out at one of its buildings. The Vancouver Sun reports that a fire was started on the roof of the Henry Angus Building, caused accidentally by a worker using an acetylene torch.
