The government of Canada is investing in the development of a pandemic and seasonal influenza vaccine, furthering the government's commitment to developing the country's Science and technology sector.
The company receiving the funds, Medicago, has gotten the money from the National Research Council of Canada's Industrial Research. The company got $279,712 to develop technology that would make vaccines easier to access and administer.
The announcement was made by Sylvie Boucher, Member of Parliament for Beauport-Limoilou, on behalf of Gary Goodyear, Minister of State.
"Our government is investing in science and technology to create good jobs, strengthen the economy and improve Canadians' quality of life," said MP Boucher. "This investment has helped develop a new technology to speed up production of vaccines that are critical for the health and safety of Canadians."
The company also received a Canadian Innovation Leader Certificate, in order to highlight its achievements in the science sector.
The announcement comes after the government announced it would invest $3.1 million in grants to fund youth science education.
